OK...you've seen the good, here's the bad

"Just a Shell...of what he used to be"

This is my painting from last weekend. I'm not happy at all and wasn't going to post it but figured failure is part of the process. Someday perhaps when I look back...this one photo will show me how far I came. How's that for a positive start to the day.

Drawing is easy and natural for me and was from the start. Watercolor just beats me up. I think I try to control it too much instead of letting it do it's thing.

Anyway, here it is. Off to a new painting for this weekend. Hopefully it will turn out better.

Have a great July 4th and many blessings.

Psalm 33:12
Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance.

Hi Marsha,
I like the shell that you did. I have not did much in watercolor but maybe the color of the shell could have been lighter, what do you think?

Ruth,
The problem with this painting is that I simply overworked the entire thing! Couldn't get the look I wanted so I just kept adding and removing color. It is way past repair...but does look a little better in person. (not much though)

Thanks for taking the time to comment.

I commend you for continuing to try watercolors. I have done the same course of things that you have. I got so frustrated with it that I gave away all the water color paints I had to a friend that works quite nicely with them. Graphite speaks to me, but I love color as well. The last two years I've been trying to figure out colored pencils. There are watercolor pencils, and I love the way they lay down but can't quite it "get it". I haven't had the epiphany yet. I've done a couple of pieces in colored pencil and one actually sold but it's still not the quality I seek. The pieces you've done in color are very nice and I can appreciate the hard work that goes into it. I agree that failure is part of the learning process, but it's discouraging after you've spent quite a bit of time on a piece. Please keep trying. I truly enjoy your black and whites. You are very gifted.
