This is one of my most recent watercolors. Spring is in the air...I know it's a bit early to see tulips in bloom, at least here in central Illinois. Yet, I simply couldn't resist. This photo has been in my files for a couple of years now and I figured it was time to see if I could do it justice with a watercolor painting.

I was particularly attracted to the angle of the photo and the way the light and shadows played around on the petals. I will admit, the colors you see here are a tad more vibrant than my reference...but that is our option as artists isn't it?  I felt the title Sunlit Tulips was appropriate.

I always thought I would use this reference photo for a drawing...I'm glad I held off and chose to do a watercolor instead.

On a different subject...I have a HEALTH UPDATE:

I'm not going into detail...but I have been 'issue free' for 30 days now. I'm believing that I'm on the mend. This has been a long ordeal (almost a year)...I feel like for the first time in months I can see light at the end of the tunnel.

I just want to say thank you for the encouraging emails and prayers. God does listen and does answer if we just believe.

Bless you for caring,
Marsha

Hi Marsha,
Very nice painting of the tulips.
I believe my Irises will be out in bloom in a few days.
I love the spring flowers such as tulips and irises.

Marsha, upscaling vibrancy of color is so totally accepted, especially when the color is red! :)

And where on earth does your friend Ruth live that her irises are almost blooming?! (envy, envy)

Had to comment a second time in one viewing because I'm feeling so attracted to the vibrancy of your colors in your florals and love Sunlit Tulips. I've been focussing on landscapes for a while now and your work is making me itch to do a floral or two. This is a time of year in New York when I'm so happy to see color in the landscape. Just put in some pansies and primroses and plan to use them in a painting or two. Will have to decide on watercolor or oils, since I work in both mediums.

So sorry for the late reply to all your lovely comments. Your encouragement and compliments on my paintings and drawings is so uplifting. My art brings a calm into an otherwise hectic routine. Yes, I am doing much better health wise and believing that I am 'recovered'. After all "believing" and saying it is half the battle.

Thank you for visiting my blog and leaving your thoughts.
