marsha,
first of all, your sunflowers are incredible! I want to reach out and grab it.
I am just putting in my two cents here....I was trained as a textile designer (talk about a hand cramping up) and my artwork style emerged from my textile training. You can see I use patterns in my paintings sometimes very detailed...It may be hard to see on the internet but check it out at www.dianaberchan.com.
The point being I was so tightly wound up... I want to share with you what I learned from one of my teachers. She took all of our brushes away from us and made us use one very, very large brush. She made us hold it by the very end so it hung loosely in our hand. She would set up floral still life, give us 5 minutes for each one, watercolor and lots of water and just let loose! Broad, loose strokes, even if it becomes abstract...get your arm loose, loose, loose!
