This commission was very special. It was done at the request of adult children for their mother as a Christmas gift.
The main photo reference was an older sepia toned photo taken when they were children. A portrait drawn from an old photo can bring to life cherished memories and will be passed on for generations to come.

With this in mind we decided to do individual portraits that could be passed on to their grandchildren some day.

I usually find drawing a boy more difficult than drawing a girl, but in this case the portrait of Donnie proved to be fairly straight forward.  I used several reference photos for his eyes..and a little imagination.  The original reference photo showed little or no detail in this area.  Both he and his sister were pleased with the results.

You can view the Companion Portrait of Donny's sister Peggy in my portfolio.
